DOPA Update

The results have been posted for today’s vote. I am not at all surprised by the outcome, but I am a little shocked at the final numbers on the vote. Only 15 Democratic representatives took a stand and said Nay while a whopping 410 gave it a resound Yea. This article posted a few hours ago on ZDNet sums it up better than I can at this late hour.

Can’t say I’m surprised either. How many congressmen want to be seen by their constituents as not being tough on sexual predators (which is how it would be seen since people love to sensationalize). Even if they did understand really what the bill was about, I don’t think most of them would have the guts to go against it (though probably most of them are clueless about what the bill could mean). The name of the bill basically ensured its passage.

Very depressing. I can’t believe even my congressman (in Vermont!) voted for it. 😦

Not surprised either, but like Meredith points out, it is a matter of perception rather than actually thinking things through. Because God forbid they actually use the little brains they may or not have between their ears once in a while. Oh well, we’ll see when they can’t get to their online stuff themselves. Oh wait, they got power, rules would not apply to them.
