An ongoing conversation among librarians with differing perspectives (public, academic, school, consortial, youth) but one shared goal: ensuring the health and relevance of libraries. [insert your own gardening metaphor here]

Hey Pete,
I can confirm Mindy's experience of "co-op fascism" here in NYC. Except (shame on me), my co-op isn't that convenient. The saving grace is that the co-op is not our main food source, and true to your point about customer service, I'd rather go directly to a small family farmer for my food (not so convenient, either) because s/he knows the importance of customer service. So what if we as librarians looked at our circumstances in a similar light as the struggling family farmer does his/hers? Would we "do" customer service differently?
Tom
